Forty more events in various events including Omaha, seven-card stud and razz, plus ladies’ and senior tournaments led up to the 10000 USD no-limit Texas hold ‘em main event starting July 28 and running through the final table on August 10. All events were held at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, which marked the first time that a casino other than Binion’s Horseshoe (now “Binion’s”) hosted the final table of the main event. Six days reserved for the first two rounds of play for the main event were established by Harrah’s Entertainment, which has run the annual event since its purchase from the Binion family in 2004. The first prize in the main event was million (US), the richest prize for the winner of any sports or television event in history. The top 12 players became millionaires.[1] The 2006 World Series featured a much-anticipated HORSE tournament with a 000 buy-in, the highest ever for a single WSOP event. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is a poker tournament[2] held annually in Las Vegas. The first WSOP in 1970 was an invitational wherein Benny Binion invited six of the best known poker players to The Horseshoe Casino. At first, the WSOP grew slowly. It was twelve years before the WSOP drew 52 participants, in 1982.[2] In the early 1980s satellite tournaments were introduced allowing people to win their way into the various events for less than the full entry fees.[2] By 1987, there were over 2100 entrants in the entire series.[2] Participation peaked in 2006, with 8773 people participating in the Main Event alone. 2009 World Series of Poker Episode 3 Champions Invitational No Limit Hold’em Part 1 of 2 Original Air Date: 04 August 2009 Release Date: 05 August 2009 Event Date: 31 May 2009 – 01 June 2009 Number of Players: 20 High Resolution release with AC3 Audio Jim Bechtel Doyle Brunson Peter Eastgate Dan Harrington Phil Hellmuth Berry Johnston Carlos Mortensen Tom McEvoy Huck Seed Robert Varkonyi

Question by LuckyLove8: Superstars of poker, do they make more money in poker or endorsements?
Question, do you think high profile poker players are generating more money playing poker or through endorsement deals, tv shows, books, etc etc

examples, Phil Hellmuth whoring himself body and soul to UB or even the Grand Daddy of poker signing his name away to DoylesRoom ??

(Note, Phil Hellmuth is actually a successful tournament player with more wsop braclets and I do respect him as a player… but others like Daniel Negrenau hasn’t won a major tournament in quite a while but has continued to pump his public profile)

Not trying to attack any superstar’s level of skill. They obviously require talent to gain the platform to endorse. This wouldn’t be an interesting question in any other sport except in poker where the game is played with money for money. And its elite should be making excessive amounts already.

true about some players but those like Daniel Negrenau are still finishing at many of the final tables… to that on a regular basis takes serious skill.

Apparently Phil Ivey and Doyle Brunson were having a bit of a dispute about some side bet that had been made. Phil Ivey says to Doyle over and over “I promise you’ll pay”. Also sitting at this star studded table is Phil Hellmuth and John Phan. This file has sat on my computer for years now & I thought it was time to share it.
